Since I can remember surfing the web, I have always been a huge fan of Boris Vallejo's work. Boris is a true oil panting wizzard that worked with hand-and-brush to create his unmatched female and demon masterpieces. I thought, well … and still do, that one would not match his caliber of perfection within the fantasy art genre. His body of work produced from 1956 to 2000 is mind bogglingly admirable. A good description of Boris found on the site linked below states: "His mastery of oil painting is immediately and abundantly clear to anyone who looks at his work, and his classic sense is as much an homage to the old masters as it is to anyone contemporaneously working in the Fantasy genre. For sheer dauntless bravura, few have ever pushed the limits as does Boris with his beautiful maidens and fearsome monsters." On the other hand, while surfing the web this weekend, I stumbled into yet another weird but brilliant little web zone. It is the world of CGI Artist Gaspard Blate (Digital Pin Ups). Not quite as *paint-and-brush skilled* as good old Boris, but rather new generation /SHLASH/ fantasy /SHLASH/ Boris /SLASH/ CGI type depictions of the female form. Yet, I must concede, CGI is just another art medium and require just as much aesthetic skill. Some of his maidens are rather interesting, to say the least. I am still undecided on 'ol Gaspard though - many of the poses that the girls are in rings way to familiar to veteran babe-site-surfers like myself. At some stage, a month or so ago, there appear to have been a *moer-of-an-accident* on the Emmarentia Bridge leading onto Barry Hertzog Avenue. For some reason, the traffic department / JHB municipality decided not to remove the bumper of a red car that still remains stuck in the wall of the bridge. Errr… is this merely a reflection of how bad traffic department service delivery is in Jozi? Is it a municipality / traffic department debate as to who should actually clean up? Is it an "Arrive Alive" campaign?

Negotiating Traffic on Barry Hertzog Rd (JHB) - for advanced users only Minimum Hardware requirements: Golf 5 GTI, RunX RSi or similar or better kW output. Minimum Software requirements: Skilled male driver. NOTE: Risk in non-compliance of above requirements will result in large amounts of profanity and blasphemy being hurled at the driver when attempting to apply the 3 pointers below. Introduction: These are a set of 3 advanced methods that is outside the general scope of the conventional Drivers and Learner lessons provided to you at inception of your driving career. They are there to help you mitigate stress and frustration on Barry Hertzog Rd (JHB). They can however be applied to similar double-lane boulevards should the driver be familiar with the road in question. To simplify our discussion, the 3 methods have been named with accompanying diagram’s (not to be found in K53 learner guides). They are: - Achilles' Heel - Right Lane Slide - The Hook Achilles' Heel Achilles' Heel is a very effective method used at traffic lights. This opportunity presents itself where there is a large amount of drivers in the right hand lane, wanting to turn right. This presents a pleasant little space in front of them to get pass lagging drivers ahead in your left-hand lane. A word of caution here is that the driver directly in front of you might also have an Achilles' Heel maneuver in mind. It is thus imperative NOT to attempt this with a City Golf or Tazz, since the maneuver will then be rendered pointless. Right Lane Slide The Right Lane Slide is a risky but profitable maneuver that can result in two possible outcomes. With most drivers being very wary of the right lane because of vehicles that might want to turn right (blocking up traffic in doing so), this sometimes presents a large amount of unused road space. With great risk comes great reward. Be careful not to get caught behind a vehicle attempting to turn right though, because this can instantaneously nullify all your hard work and place right you back where you have started. The Hook The Hook is a very common maneuver used by most Barry Hertzog drivers. Here you attempt to further your position on the road by eliminating lag drivers one-by-one. A word of caution here is similar to the Right Lane Slide (See Right Lane Slide above). There is 2nd cautionary aspect though, watch out and be alert, as many drivers attempt this and it may result in the proverbial JHB-Bumper-bash. This is a very effective maneuver when encountering JHB Taxi drivers. As you might or might not know, I am one of the many Douglas Adams fans that ramble on about his work whenever I have nothing else to post. If you are one of the fortunate and enlightened people that have actually read the "The Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy" then you might or might not be one of those that know about some of the other Adams works. The one I am specifically referring to here is the "The Meaning of Liff". I have searched long and far for this little piece of literature, only to discover that it is no longer in print and that one can only attain an original copy from second hand bookstores or via Amazon second hand book sales. Yeah, I am rather lazy and never got round to actually laying my hands on such a *second hand copy*, however, the internet is a rather resourceful space when it comes to literature. Yip, I got hold of a text download the other day, and yes, I am about to shove some more of my interest down your throat. "In Life*, there are many hundreds of common experiences, feelings, situations and even objects which we all know and recognize, but for which no words exist. On the other hand, the world is littererd with thousands of spare words which spend their time doing nothing but loafing about on signposts pointing at places.Our job, as wee see it, is to get these words dow off the signposts and into the mouths of babes and sucklings and so on, where they can start earning their keep in everyday conversation and make a more positive contribution to society." - Douglas Adams and John Lloyd. Many years ago, authors Douglas Adams and John Lloyd took it upon themselves to solve this problem by producing a little pocket size dictionary (A reference book containing an alphabetical list of words with information about them) if you may; called: "The meaning of Liff". In this brilliant piece they actually look at these *experiences/feelings/situations/objects* that has no real words assigned to them and then give it a name/word that can be used in everyday conversation. It is an absolute hoot and really a must read if you have cynical DNA in your make-up. Since the book in no longer in print I thought it good to provide a link here purely for *educational* purposes not intending to infringe on any copyright laws (well, technically, the dewd who copied the book onto the web already broke those laws for us - should you feel the need to copy and paste it ... errr that is entirely up to you :) ).

This is one of those errr … posts, that only geeks might have a chuckle on BUT … it is so friggen brilliant, it even permits the layman a smile. Now, not too long ago Microsoft announced the new platform for both application and web development – we geeks know this platform as .Net This platform commonly reffered to as the .Net Platform and it supports multiple programming languages like VB, C#, Java etc etc.. and is erm, well, terribly complicated. (No point on laboring the subject now) The point I am trying to get across here is that in this *new* object orientated programming (OOP) platform there are some *new* concepts, well, even to the accomplished programmer there are *new* terms and concepts to understand and get under the belt. One of these concepts is called *Polymorphism*. It is a rather difficult concept to get across as a trainer – the link that follows is a more erm practical approach to explaining Polymorphism. Hehe.. I think for today’s entry I would like to focus on the phrase “dance and drink and screw” as referred to in the 1995 song “Common People by Pulp”. I tend to think about it a lot, especially when I sit down in a pub having a quiet beer on my own, gathering my thoughts… Back in the day when I DJ’ed in Nite Clubs I used to play the song a lot as it was a big favorite with the locals and it also had a lot of relevance to the people I played for and venue I played in at the time. They danced, drank and screwed ... that was the norm of the 80s and 90s… the common people that reveled the night spots that I once ruled. ALCAZAR NITE CLUB Y2K

Today, however, like most things, it all changed. The norm is bored, if not drug addicted, poor people. I have now heard in more than one radio advertisement the advice as to how to handle your money matters so you can “afford” to go out. Well just looking at what the SA Night Line has to offer is rather shocking and pathetic to what “we” were used to in the good ol’ 80s and 90s SA. I still haphazardly visit the odd DJ Box as a guest to the venues that my brother now entertains – it is almost but not quite depicted as sad. Phuck-me… I guess the “common people” these days do not “dance and drink and screw” all that much anymore….

It is becoming a general occurrence for English speaking people to label Afrikaans as a "dying language", despite the fact that the Afrikaans music industry is one of, if not the biggest SA music market at present. Gawd forbid that an Afrikaans speaking person says "has" in place of "have" when speaking to the English but… we can publish incorrect Afrikaans on posters and slam them on lamp posts: "MOENIE DIE OPPOSISIE VERDEEL NIE" Double negative! - they teach you this in your early years at school. .
